On a mission mode to increase greenery

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited Chairman-cum-Managing Director P. Madhusudan on Saturday said over 40 per cent of the area at Ukkunagaram, the township of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant had a green cover.

Participating in the World Environment Day programme here, he said reiterated the commitment of Vizag Steel towards environment and explained progress made on various environmental protection measures.

He said RINL had so far planted more than five million trees and would be planting another 1.3 million trees with the aim of one tree for every tonne of steel produced at RINL.

Prizes were distributed to winners of various competitions, held on the occasion of World Environment Day and also Green Awards were bestowed on 80 employees.

AP Pollution Control Board Joint Chief Environmental Engineer Madhusudhan Rao and RINL Executive Director (Works) Ramana Rao were present.

Meanwhile, a large number of employees of Gangavaram Port Limited (GPL) participated in the green rally on the beach road organised by the APPCB.
